Viviane Brickmanne is Belgian. Resident in Spain. Liberal Arts graduate from the University of Louvain (Belgium) She always looks forward to transforming the object in order to reveal its unexplored depths. Her classic and literary academic training is reflected in her first figurative sculptures. The Mutants series portrays stylized young girls who unsuccessfully attempt to escape the earth and reach an impossible freedom. Decaying nature often inspires her. She picks up decomposing plant elements in order to capture the traces of passing time caused by wind, rain, soil or the human hand. She has started a new line of research in bricks, a constructive element, that she transforms to give it a new meaning, and appearance. At times Viviane introduces leaves or pomegranates into the brick to create a dialogue between an architectural element which is rectangular and masculine and the plant, round and feminine. She is also deeply impressed by the destruction of cities due to war. Broken bricks are a sign of suffering and desperation and a metaphor of the vulnerability and fragility of our lives.
